Might there be a way to instead inform the user of what part of the battlefield they are on and scroll the battlefield Populus-style (without the whole psudeo-3D look)? Perhaps a small change to the tiles that are the border of the battlefield to show that they are the edge? |

Well... That is a great idea. I just don't have the memory; the executable is too close to the 64Kb limit already. The camera panning requires about 500 bytes just to pan 1 tile in each direction (both automatic and on-demand panning). I was asking myself is 1 tile worth the extra logic? I was thinking that I could use the 500 byte savings to implement other suggestions to help make game play easier while reducing some confusion (the need to pan) on the combat map. |

That's cool. My thinking was just to make sure that the gameplay of combat is not so significantly altered as to make it either 1) unfaithful to the original, or 2) change combat dynamics so much that combat becomes degenerative. Maybe some play-testing of the smaller field (unless you feel pretty sure; sounds like you do).

Wow. Ultima V is now the number one rated download on ticalc.org! And it's one of the most downloaded in the past seven days with 502 downloads! I wonder if my review had anything to do with it, or if mentioning it in the news article did anything. At any rate, great job Ranman!

Could we get a status update on how the modifications and bug fixes are going? I'd like to play this game some more.

Hi all,
firstoff really great conversion of Ultima 5 for the Ti. I would likfe to suggest one improvement. At the PC Version you can use any cannon you can find uin the game. Thats for instance possible at Lord British's Castle. When u climb up to the roof and then "push" the cannon in front of the door to his forbidden chamber (magial locked door) the character is pulling it in front of the door und u are able to destroy that door. In the chamber lies a magical carpet which is soooo important to get at the beginning of the game, because you can fly over poison fields and river planes. Thats sooo useful :-). |
