QUOTE (DJ Omnimaga @ Jul 1 2008, 03:54 AM)
French people don't suck, but most tend to not care about RPGs, thus, know nothing about them. I got the experience 5 years ago when I started posting on TI forums, no one was talking about the good calc RPGs, no matter the calc model, and when I posted about mine most people were saying they didn't liked RPGs. Later on TI-Bank, as good as the forum is compared to Yaronet, it still seemed the same. There's some RPG talk on forums, but it's more rare than other kind of games. I guess it goes with each country cultures. For example, in Quebec, lot of people like RPGs, and lot of people liked Starcraft too. In Korea there is still Starcraft tournaments broadcasted on TV, even 10 years after the game came out. Same goes with music genres, movies being made, etc...

What I mean is that not a lot of people might like Ultima on Yaronet since a lot doesn't know anything about RPGs. Also since Ultima is a bit different in the way there's more features, is more complex and require you to enter commands to perform some actions, they might be confused even more.

That said, these Yn guys really doN't realise the hard work that was put into Ultima over the past 2 years. I wonder if they even tried to make games at all before. I don't recall seeing them announce something decent. I would like to see them try to port such a game to such a small platform. I saw lot of progress in Ultima in topics during the past years and it seemed to pack up so many features that I was surprised how it would fit on a calc, and it finally did, with all the optimization that was put in the code in that time. It doesn,t matter if Ranman didn't wrote the story, nor the original sprites or created the game mechanics and all, he still managed to do do one of the biggest game port in calc history. This deserves a POTY. It will probably get my vote if there's a 2008 POTY... that's if ticalc.org upload the game though... because I think it has been a month since Ultima V was released, right? And they still haven't added the game to the archives x.x

I concur, only some of them suck, such as the ones that act like that on that forum. There have been some really amazing games and programs come from the french part of our community. I still stand by what I said though, that those guys that are bashing UV would not know a good game if it sat on their shoulder...

Congratulations Ranman! worship.gif

You must feel like you just gave birth to a baby.

As for French, it was a French man who created a Java version of Ultima 1.

I have been a little preoccupied with HalfLife 2. It's the first game I've played in nearly 3 years. I almost forgot how much fun it is to actually play a game. I have now played HL2, HL2 Ep1, HL2 Ep2, and Portal -- You gotta love the Orange Box. I can't wait for HL2 Ep3.

In all seriousness... I am working on the 92/v200 version (just slowly). hopefully not too much longer.

Try it out and give me suggestions.

Please note that the 'Hand' (or 'Lock') key acts just like the '2nd' key.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! happy.gif

And a great BIG thank you to everyone for your support over the past few years... without it, Ultima V may have never been completed.

Ranman still cannot believe it's finished.
