Not just the 'pretty good'

I had originally planned to keep this project a secret, but then the curiosity to see what you all thought got the best of me. I've already started some of the basic constructs of the game and started writing the story.

STORY:

You are part of the I.G.I.A, the InterGalactic Intelligence Agency. You have been sent to Titan, one of saturn's moons to investigate the disappearance of weapons, plutonium and some soldiers. The IGSA, the InterGalactic Security Agency runs and funds this base, so uncovering the reasons for the disappearing weapons and soldiers is of the highest importance.

After being briefed, fed and dismissed, you spend some time reading in your quarters. Some time in the early hours of the day, you hear a crash. You grab your weapon and dash towards the direction the sound came in. The T1000 has gone berserk. It appears that this prototype defense robot has killed a soldier. You draw your weapon, find a weak spot and fire. After the thing has been disabled and the body of the soldier is taken care of, the T1000 is taken in for diagnostics to find out why this happened.

In the morning you hear a commotion coming from the administrative quarters. "What now?", you think as you rub the last remnants of sleep from your eyes. You make your way to the commander's office and find out that during the night, the diagnostics lab technician has been murdered.

.... And that's all I'm giving you for now. When I write up the rest of the story you'll have to play the game to figure it out for yourself.

I plan on having a whole lot of cinematics involved in this game. You'll probably start off a section of the game with a cinematic scene and then the HUD and your game info will come up and then you start playing that scene. (the tv snow thing that you see when the game starts up is intended to give an impression that you are playing a part in a show.)

Here's some early screenshots of the soldiers, the t1000 and the basic layout of the game.

I will finish up Doom89 before I get myself heavily involved with this, but I thought I'd let you guys see what I've been up to lately.

o.o i like these textures and sprites a lot!!! they look really clean and don't flicker a lot due to the textures. really nice graphics!

btw, i thought you said you wanted to get away from 3D? instead you seemed to dive right back in.

Wow, me like this project! The story seems especially intriguing! And now my first question for the project: will there be dialogue? I am basically speaking about allowing you to talk to people through an alternate fire button, and making the game a bit more RPG-like.

Man, I really need to get myself an 89T fast... all these games I am missing out on almost make me cry. crying.gif

Wow I totally love the concept of this game. You are just becoming the 3D master aren't you lol.

Yeah I like the textures a lot too, they are very very clean. I also like the name of your project. smile.gif

Thanks, I decided I had a good thing going with this idea and decided to persue it before I messed around with Low G Man. Which may end up being a side project anyways.

Yea I like the textures also, and I am going to keep the ones I have that you see up there as the main textures and add minor ones for different parts of the game. I'm gonna make this one a little less texture heavy and kind of focus on visuals, like the way the levels look, the cinematics and such.

And to answer Delnar's question, yes there will be dialogue, but not exactly like you explained. I'll probably weave it into the game in parts that set off cinematic scenes and such. I've got a good system in my head for how to organize the motion of the characters in the cinematic scenes, and plan to start working on that as soon as I get some more construct down.

I need to finish up Doom89 though... Procrastination was setting in last week so I made another level, I think I'll focus more on that before really jumping head first into this one. That way I won't neglect anything.

Thanks you guys! I want to break some norms with this game. I'm shooting to use this engine to it's full potential. I hope I manage to get close at least. smile.gif

And if it's note enough, you can always make your own engine (seeing the experience you already have with making 68k FPS's). cool.gif

Maybe I could give it a shot if it comes to that.

UPDATE:

I finished some movement code, so the T1000's will seek out you and the soldiers, it looks pretty neato, I'm going to add in some shooting code and such for both the player and the enemies. That way they can shoot each other and you can shoot them.

Friendly fire will probably be implemented. smile.gif

I figure I'll add a little more advanced AI into the game than most other FPS's for the 68k calcs. The computer fights itself and you at the same time, I think that's pretty neat.

One thing I would like to see is a gravity gun similar to Half Life 2's! I was saving that idea for an FPS that I wanted to make one day, but I figured you might be able to put it to much better use.

Explains it all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZBvQd3VFLQ It's still a great video even if you know what the 1337 gravity gun is. tongue.gif
